You’ve researched, deliberated and pondered on it, trying to find the one, the ring they just won’t be able to stop staring at. However, both of these options will probably let the cat out of the bag! We’re frequently asked by our clients about how to measure for a ring size without their partner knowing. Read on for our top tips…

Borrow one of her rings

Have a rifle through her jewellery box and sneak an existing ring to us to measure the size. A word of caution here though, this is best if you know what finger they wear it on and even better if they wear it on the finger on which you expect them to be wearing the new ring – i.e. most often the ring finger of the left hand.

Pretend you’re buying a ring for someone else

Pretend you’re buying a ring for a female family member. Make sure this pretend recipient is someone whose hands are similar in size to your partner’s. We’re happy to send you a free sizing kit that you can use for this in the comfort of your own home.

Ask a friend or family member

If they can be trusted with your secret, then it’s worth asking if they know her finger size. They may already know or if they don’t know right away, they can be the one to do some detective work. They could go jewellery shopping for fun and get your partner to have their finger measured professionally.

Try asking her!

You could always ask them their ring size; this direct method does not have to take away the element of surprise. They still don’t know when you are going to propose… or how!

Finally, don’t panic!

The key is to get an approximate size and err on the side of caution by making it bigger rather than smaller as it can be adjusted after the proposal.
